Four years after the Miskatonic Massacre that saw the re-animated corpses from the hospital morgue go on a murderous rampage, Dr. Herbert West is back and more obsessive than ever. Arrow Video has been happy to help Dr. West with that obsession in the form of a newly packaged release with some great extras packed in for good measure.

It’s been a long time since I read the original source material, Herbert West – Reanimator, written by the master of weird tales, H. P. Lovecraft, so I took the time to re-read the short story. Lovecraft is great to read although he wrote Continue reading

Blu-ray Review: Re-Animator (1985)

Re-Animator BR CoverDistributor: Second Sight Films

BBFC Classification: 18

Director: Stuart Gordon

Starring: Jeffrey Combs, Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, David Gale, Robert Sampson, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, Al Berry

Along with Evil Dead II and The Return of the Living Dead, director Stuart Gordon’s 1985 debut feature film Re-Animator stands as one of the finest examples of horror comedy from a decade that became known for madcap splatter movies.

West returns to the US where he continues his studies at the Miskatonic University Continue reading

Often overlooked when the subject of 1980s horror films comes up, From Beyond is director Stuart Gordon’s follow-up to Re-Animator and sees the filmmaker again drawing inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft, as well as reuniting many of the cast and crew from that film.

Whilst working on a contraption called The Resonator, a machine that allows its user to see into other dimensions by stimulating the brain’s pineal gland, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs – Re-Animator/Castle Freak) manages to get it to work and begins to see Continue reading
