Killing Season brings Hollywood giants Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver/Raging Bull) and John Travolta (Grease/Pulp Fiction) together on-screen for the first time in a story about two veterans of the Bosnian War who both carry the baggage of what they did in the conflict. Blu-ray Review: The Night of the Hunter (1955)

The Night of the Hunter BR CoverDistributor: Arrow Academy

BBFC Classification: 12

Director: Charles Laughton

Starring: Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish, Peter Graves, Don Beddoe

The Night of the Hunter originally came out in 1955 and was the one and only directorial credit on the CV of actor Charles Laughton (The Hunchback of Notre Dame/The Old Dark House), the story being that the poor critical reception that met the film at the time put Laughton off directing another one (although he did apparently have help on this film from assistant Terry Sanders and actor Robert Mitchum). DVD Review: The Washing Machine (1993)

The Washing Machine DVD CoverDistributor: Shameless Screen Entertainment

Director: Ruggero Deodato

Starring: Philippe Caroit, Ilaria Borrelli, Katarzyna Figura, Barbara Ricci

However, one name not usually associated with the word ‘erotic’ (although his films do feature nudity, but nothing you could call sexy) is Continue reading

In Tenebrae, an American writer named Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa) is on a book tour in Rome to promote his latest novel, but Neal is being stalked by an obsessed fan who murders women in similar ways to the murders in his book. As the body count rises the police are seemingly at a loss as to working out who is committing the gruesome crimes, and Peter Neal finds out that reality and fiction aren’t always two separate things.

Definitely up there with director Dario Argento’s best work, Tenebrae is surprisingly straightforward when put up against most of his other output and showcases Continue reading
